A Policy Platform at Last

Ok so it's been a while since I posted anything. There were those pesky christmas holidays and then new years and then my life was consumed with a Model Parliament at which I served as Prime Minister. That's all over now so back to my life as a political junkie.

After a month of the daily Conservative policy announcements, the Liberal party platform has still not been officially released. For all of us policy wonks there has been good news. The Liberal party platform has been leaked. Yay! Apparently Western Standard broke it first and Akaash Maharaj found it later.

UPDATE: The platform is now on the front of the liberal.ca site. Good news for those of us not interested in the attack ads.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet but let me make a prediction or two. Like every other document that the PM or his staff come near I'm sure much is made about the changing demographics of Canada and the Rise of India and China. Also I'm confident that Health Care and Aboriginals top the list of priorities. I don't expect we'll hear anything about the following topics: Democratic reform, fiscal imbalance, or the GST. Anyways, It's good to be a Liberal today even though we're nine points back.

On the point of the viscious attack ads. Those Conservatives should be ashamed of going negative on us. We're Liberals we're supposed to have a monopoly on that. Anyways, one more victory for cynicism, apathy and low voter turnout. or as many 6 year old have been saying all week:
Help me mommy, I'm scared of Mister Martin. He looks mean.

My organization is very happy the Mr. Martin will ban the notwithstanding clause. It is about time we can gain the freedoms we deserve, protected by the Charter and the courts!

Bring on the boys!

While I'm sure the party appreciates your support. The elimination of the notwithstanding clause will not bring NAMBLA any closer to getting what you mistakenly see as freedoms you deserve. The criminal code and about 50 years of precedent establish limits on the freedom of sexual expression particularly where it is harmful.
