More Changes

As I mentioned last week, I'm in the midst of planning some new projects in the land of blogging and won't likely continue to blog about Canadian Politics much at all. I'm in the midst of recruiting a collaborator for a new blog I'm hoping to launch in September dealing with our experiences as Christians. I got to talk to my potential partner last night for quite some time and we're both very excited about the possibilities.

In other news, I have a new dream. I've just discovered, (via Jordoncooper.com) a space in New York called Paragraph. The idea is that it is a cooperatively funded space for writers of all stripes and sizes to ply their craft in a creatively stimulating but focused and peaceful space. Similar projects in New York are The Writers' Room and the Brooklyn Writer's Space.

I can imagine a similar project opening in Kitsilano focusing on a mix of aspiring and established writers hopefully with a discounted rate offered to UBC students. A space like this would be something I would love and I'm not aware of any projects here in Vancouver that function like this. Perhaps one could piggyback a niche into the project dedicated to a creative, sacred space that would be open to anyone who requested it. My pastor likes to talk about "Third Spaces" and as much as I'm disinclined to use newspeak, particularly when it comes from Starbucks, I think that a real practical way the church can work to foster community in cities is by fostering these kinds of communal, semi-public spaces. Perhaps with the church building these kinds of spaces, there'll be less conspicuous consumption associated with finding space for self.

Anyone else interested in something like Paragraph closer to home? send me an e-mail.
