He just keeps suprising

Andrew Potter is rapidly becoming my favorite on-line read. I've mentioned this before. Not that he's done babysitting for Andrew Coyne, he's back at the Rebel Sell blog and today posted a link to his latest column. Turns out he's still got a gift for the unseen angle on a story and I keep getting caught off guard by his arguments.

Today's column makes the case against an ethics commissioner, and he's persuaded me. Of course I'm a Liberal partisan and at the moment Bernard Shapiro is our strongest political capital. Why would I agree that we should get read if it? read the column and see if you're not convinced either.

Meanwhile, the end of the world is just a little bit closer for certain young prince.

You know, I loved the book, but I think Potter at least is drifting rightwards. It isn't that he embraces the stupidity of the CPC, it's just that whatever his reasoning, the outcomes seem increasingly critical of everyone else.

I thought about emailing him, because it seemed wierdly inconsistent with the cheery, utilitarian social democratic politics I felt informed the book. But, kind of a presumptuous thing to ask a guy what the hell's up with his politics.

I think maybe in attacking the fatuities of the farther-left, he may be engaging in a bit of Newton's third law without realizing it.

I understand your point but to be honest I'm thankful for guys like him. Us Liberal types, particularly the partisan ones are prone to a certain kind of myopia. I appreciate someone who's willing to tear a strip off the left when intellectual laziness and/or faulty assumptions lead us into foolish conclusions.

I don't know that Potter is interested in helping the CPC correct their mistakes and consequently stays silent on their foolishness. You could be right though, who am I to say.

Well, I like the man, no question, and I'm just worried about conservative drift from getting sick of radicals dominating the passionate discourse of the left.

He and Heath did us all a great service in writing their book, it'd take a lot to make me critical of him after that; I just don't assume he's necessarily on the side of our party at the moment.

Jason,

fair point. I wouldn't be waiting for Potter to endorse the party any time soon. I appreciate your participation on this here blog. It's not the widest read source of rants in the 'sphere. Mind if I ask how you found me?

I go through most of the livelier Liblogs each day. I'm pretty sure I've seen you post somewhere or other anyway first though.

I figure not everyone comments on blogs in the low 5-10 readership; till I get google analytics set up though, that's just my guess.
